The Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional (JKN) program, which is organized by the Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Sosial (BPJS) Kesehatan, is continuously striving to provide easy, fast, and equitable health protection for all citizens across Indonesia. One of the key innovations within this program is the introduction of the Mobile JKN application, which aims to simplify the processes of checking member status and accessing other health service information.
Juliana Mamoribo, 30, who participates as part of the Penerima Bantuan Jaminan Kesehatan (PBI JK), shared her experience with the Mobile JKN application. She explained how she hadn’t used her JKN card for medical purposes for some time, prompting her to use the Mobile JKN app to verify whether her membership status was active. With this application, she could easily check and understand her JKN status without needing to visit the BPJS Kesehatan office.
According to Mamoribo, “With this application, I can directly check and learn about my JKN participation. An active membership status is very important because only with active status can we receive the healthcare services guaranteed by BPJS Kesehatan.” She described the ease with which she accessed her participant information through the app’s features. She also praised the app for allowing her to quickly determine where her registered health facilities were located. “I feel this has positively impacted our satisfaction as JKN participants with healthcare services,” she said.
Despite prevalent claims about discrimination against JKN patients at healthcare facilities, Mamoribo countered these claims, stating, “Throughout my experience with JKN services, I have always received optimal healthcare from the health workers at the facilities.” Her gratitude extended to the program itself as she expressed wishes for the program’s expansion throughout Indonesia, particularly Papua, so more individuals could gain access to necessary health protection.
Dr. Dwi Sulistyono Yudo, the head of BPJS Kesehatan Cabang Manokwari, stressed the importance of public awareness about the rights and responsibilities associated with the JKN program. He noted, “If there are still public members unaware of how to manage their JKN participation, they can now access this information online from anywhere, at any time. An active JKN membership is extremely important for all JKN participants. It aims to protect them from unexpected health costs and provide comfort and security when faced with emergencies.”
He elaborated on the situation when membership is inactive, saying, “When this happens, all medical service costs become the participant’s responsibility, and BPJS Kesehatan will not cover the health services provided.” Consequently, the organization focuses on making healthcare access easier through various online and non-face-to-face service delivery channels where participants can manage their access quickly and simply via the Mobile JKN application, the Care Center 165, and WhatsApp Administration Services (PANDAWA) at the number 08118165165 or by visiting the nearest BPJS Kesehatan office.
Dr. Dwi also clarified the circumstances which may lead to membership becoming inactive, such as overdue premium payments or being previously registered as Workers Receiving Wages (PPU) and leaving their jobs without signing up as independent participants. These cases, along with others like no longer qualifying for PBI or children transitioning out of the JKN program at the age of 21, necessitate reactivation processes, which he assured can be navigated easily. For example, those inactive due to overdue contributions must settle their outstanding dues to regain active status. If there’s financial difficulty, JKN participants may register under the Rencana Pembayaran Bertahap (REHAB) program, involving payment installments. Parents of children who surpass the age threshold can also activate their status by registering as independent participants.
To reactivate JKN participation, the process can be completed online via BPJS Kesehatan services with required documents like the ID, Family Card, and Bank Account Book. Doing so ensures participants have reasonable access to necessary healthcare services.
Through all these initiatives, the Mobile JKN application is paving the way for improved healthcare accessibility among Indonesians, reaffirming the commitment of BPJS Kesehatan to develop innovations beneficial to the community.
